The evolution of Google TV based on Android completely L

The evolution of Google TV based on Android completely L

We already knew Google TV, the company system to reach televisions and decoders of our homes. However, the system never made it to be very successful, mainly due to her lack of interest from developers who did not take many applications to this platform. Now, Google announced at its Google I / O 2014 the evolution of the system and now called Android TV.

Unlike Google TV, Android TV would be complemented based on pure Android code L, the new version of the mobile operating system of the company. This would allow developers to easily modify their applications to work directly on this platform, like Android-L (cell phone and tablet) and Android Wear, and not having the need of having to create an entirely new application for this new TV platform.

Currently, a number of applications found on Android and work on the big screen TV featuring Android, such as music, games, movies, and more. It is precisely in the area where Android TV game also differs from its predecessor Google TV. Android TV also has a focus on video games, allowing a system is not only television, but also functions as a mini console.

Android TV can be controlled through an Android phone or tablet with L, like a television remote control or video games. In fact, manufacturers are the ones who decide how to offer it in the beginning, is control video game control specially designed for Android TV or regular monitoring of television and users can can choose to use their phones or tablets at any time.

Overall, Android TV interface is very graphical and easy. It works very smoothly and shows you on the home screen content recommendations can like, given your history seen or used content, like video games and apps.

Each application has a similar structure where you find a hidden phenomenon on the left side and the other on the right information. The start menu displayed when you open the application and then closes when you enter the information tine each of those categories or play any kind of content.

It has been said that unlike Android mobile phones, Google would control interface and thus offer TV Android experience to users. Google Releases Android Camera App With Selective Focus

Google Releases Android Camera App With Selective Focus

Google has released a standalone version of its stock camera app for Android— and it's a significant improvement on its predecessor.

The new app, called simply Google Camera, features a new user interface with revamped shooting modes, as well as the ability to selectively focus the camera.

Rumors of the new app first surfaced earlier this month after it was reported the company was testing a new camera app that would be released independently of the upcoming Android 4.4.3 update.

Google also unveiled Lens Blur, a brand new effect that enables users to shoot with a shallower depth of field to selectively focus on certain portions of a particular image. This is the first time Google has included the feature in its camera app.

"Achieving this optical effect has traditionally required a big lens and aperture, and therefore hasn’t been possible using the camera on your mobile phone or tablet," wrote Google software Engineer Carlos Hernandez in a blog post explaining how Google's research team created Lens Blur.

"Lens Blur replaces the need for a large optical system with algorithms that simulate a larger lens and aperture," he added. "Instead of capturing a single photo, you move the camera in an upward sweep to capture a whole series of frame."

The camera's panorama and portrait sphere modes have also been improved with higher resolution. Google Camera is also the first time the company has made portrait sphere, a shooting mode that that enables 360 degree panoramas, available to non-Nexus devices.

The app also features an enlarged shutter button and viewfinder, so what users see in the viewfinder will be what comes out in the shot.

Google Camera is available in the Google Play Store and is compatible with devices running Android 4.4 (KitKat).

Google Adds 'Relationships' Option to Voice Search on Android

Google Adds 'Relationships' Option to Voice Search on Android
Another piece of Google's voice search puzzle fell into place on Tuesday as the search giant announced that Android users will now be able to voice search on their smartphones by relationship terms in addition to name searches.

The update, as described by Google, will bring up any contact you've designated as having a particular familial connection to you in the "relationship" field in your contacts tool on Android. This additional functionality is meant to allow a user to now speak a phrase such as "call mom," or "text sister" to initiate those actions without the user needing to say the person's name as it's listed in their contacts.

In order to launch contacts on your Android handset via voice you first need to allow the Google search app to access your contacts and the profile information attached to each person or place.

However, during repeated testing of the update on a Moto G handset running Android 4.4.2, we were unable to get the relationship voice function to work automatically, despite a number of attempts using various listing configurations. Rather than simply recognizing the relationship assigned to the contact in the People contacts app, Google still asked "who is your brother?" prompting us to pick a contact to assign the designation of "brother."

Despite that, the system's "name" search by voice worked perfectly, which indicates that the update, which is being rolled out on Google's side, may be reaching some users sooner than others.

Latest 5 Apps You Don't Want to Miss

Latest 5 Apps You Don't Want to Miss

Pop
On the surface, #Pop will look familiar to users of Vine, Instagram or other photo- and video-sharing apps. But what sets #Pop apart is the way users interact with their feeds. Instead of simply uploading a single photo or video, users upload two photos, videos or GIFs that are then combined into a single (and often hilarious) “pop" that’s revealed when users tap on the image. #Pop is available on iOS.
Themer

Possibly the greatest customization app on Android, Themer ran into some controversy earlier this week when Apple had the app removed from Google Play because the Cupertino, Calif. company thought one of its themes looked a little too similar to iOS 7. But luckily for fans, Google soon reinstated the app. Themer lets users personalize the look and feel of their devices by choosing from dozens of elegant customizable themes for their home screen and menus. Themer is available on Android.
PolyFauna
PolyFauna is Radiohead’s latest digital experiment. Part game, part 3D canvas, users are encouraged to interact with and explore the trippy moonscape-like universe that the band has co-created with a team of digital artists. There’s no real point to the app, but it’s visually stunning, and features a great soundtrack (the entire experience includes music from “Bloom” off of Radiohead's latest album The King of Limbs). It's also surprisingly addictive. PolyFauna is available on iOS and Android.

Easilydo

Easilydo's super smart assistant app got a huge update this week. In addition to personalized notifications for managing just about every part of your day, users now have access to a host of premium (paid) features, including real-time email updates, advanced contacts management, on-the-go travel notifications and gift-card discounts. Easilydo is available on iOS and Android.

Chideo

Chideo provides fans with exclusive access to their favorite celebs in the name of helping charities. The app is connected to a network of dozens of actors, musicians and athletes who represent various charities. Users can find their favorite star, and submit and vote on questions to ask them. The stars will answer the top questions with videos that can be watched in exchange for charitable donations. Chideo is available on iOS.

Final Nikon Coolpix S800c Runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Normally, when we talk about an Android-powered system, we would venture into the realm of smartphones and tablets, and very rarely (if ever) into the world of digital cameras. The line is about to be blurred this day, as the Nikon Coolpix S800c was just announced to come with a copy of the Android operating system – Android 2.3 Gingerbread, to be exact. Yes sir, how does this digital camera shape up in the face of a mobile operating system running in the background? Well, we shall have to take a closer look at its machinations and inner workings right after the jump, shall we not ?

For starters, with Android running on the Nikon Coolpix S800c, you might actually feel that you are using a smartphone at times – until you realize that you are unable to make any phone calls or receive text messages. Good thing it has Wi-Fi connectivity built in though, as it would not be much of an Android device if there were not Internet connectivity to make it interactive.

Setting up the camera for Internet connection using operations which are similar to those used by Android smartphones is possible, not to mention easy. You are also able to post whatever you have snapped and recorded onto social networking sites like Google+, Facebook, and Twitter in a jiffy, but make sure you are within the vicinity of a Wi-Fi network, otherwise it would all amount to nought.

Not only that, the Nikon Coolpix S800c has a new feature known as “Upload to Smart Device”, where this app can be used to transfer high-resolution photos and movies to smart devices which are powered by the Android or iOS operating system, again, over a wireless connection. As for the performance of the Nikon Coolpix S800c, what kind of camera specifications does it pack?

We do know it will come equipped with a 10x optical zoom NIKKOR lens, in addition to a built-in lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) function. There is also a backside illumination CMOS sensor that boasts of an effective pixel count of 16-megapixels so that you can shoot images with little noise at the high sensitivities – perfect for low light conditions or night landscapes.

You are also able to record 1920 x 1080p/30-fps full-HD movies with stereo sound, and the included high-performance GPS module is able to record your current position (latitude and longitude) information, applying them to photos and movies as they are recorded.

Android 4.4.1 Landing soon and Fixes Nexus 5 Camera

Android 4.4.1 Landing soon and Fixes Nexus 5 Camera

Android 4.4.1 landing soon and fixes Nexus 5 camera. The Nexus 5 from Google is quite an awesome device, however its camera isn’t the greatest. Even though the Nexus 5′s camera features a optical image stabilization, taking shots from it are painfully slow and generally out-of-focus. Google is aware of this and as per The Verge, a new update scheduled to be released in the next few days fixes a lot of issues with the Nexus 5 camera. They’ve managed to get a hands-on experience with Android 4.4.1 and here is what they have to say:

Speed is a theme for the update, and the Nexus 5′s camera really does feel faster across the board. The app launches a full second quicker than it did before the update, meaning you’ll miss many fewer shots than before. There’s also a new progress indicator in HDR+ mode, which makes the process, longer by necessity, feel a lot more straightforward. It’s the first of what Burke says will be a series of interface changes, as Google tries to make Android cameras a little more controllable and obvious. Right now, nearly every setting is buried under layers of menus, and Burke says Google is working on undoing that.

Update: Google has started rolling out the 4.4.1 update- check your device to see if you have received the update.

How Amazon to ship Android-based gaming console by year's end?

ow Amazon to ship Android-based gaming console by year's end?
Online mega-retailer Amazon may be planning to release an Android-based gaming console by the end of the year, if rumors prove correct.

Citing "those ... who have knowledge of the in-development hardware," Game Informer claims Bezos & Co. may be readying the device to ship by "Black Friday" – the day after the US Thanksgiving holiday, traditionally the start of the holiday shopping season, which this year falls on November 29.

Details of the plan are virtually nonexistent, but this isn't the first time El Reg has heard murmurs that Amazon may be planning to broaden its hardware line beyond its Kindle e-readers and tablets.

In May, The Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon was operating a secretive facility in Apple's hometown of Cupertino, California, known only as "Lab 126," where it was working on at least four hush-hush hardware projects.

Two of those were said to be Amazon-branded smartphones, a perennial topic of discussion among rumormongers. A third was thought to be some kind of set-top device for streaming Amazon Prime video (Chromecast competitor, anyone?).

Details of the fourth project were less clear. The WSJ reckoned it might be some sort of standalone streaming audio player, but those are a bit passé in the age of the smartphone. Could an Android-powered gaming console be the answer?

Maybe, but if Amazon is planning to get into the gaming biz this Christmas, it will face tough competition. Both Microsoft and Sony are expected to launch their next-generation consoles in the same period, and many customers have already preordered one or the other.

Amazon's wouldn't be the first gaming device based on Android, either. Nvidia released its portable Shield device at the end of July, and sales of the Kickstarter-funded Ouya microconsole have been modest.

Still, there's reason to believe Amazon may be able to outflank these competitors in the Android gaming market, owing to its strong brand and its mature sales infrastructure.

The Amazon Appstore already works on most current Android devices as well as Kindle tablets, so adapting it for an Android-based console should be trivial. Earlier this week, Amazon opened its developer program to web-based content in addition to native apps, giving Appstore customers access to offerings from a wide range of developers. And when your Reg hack checked on Friday, Amazon's top ten bestselling apps were all games.

New Samsung Galaxy S4 landing at Mobile World in Feb

Citing unnamed supply chain sources, as well as what we’re guessing are some better informed sorts within Samsung, the Korea Times claims that the phone will land in February at the Mobile World Congress.

samsung galaxy s3 red
The handset is apparently set to hit retailers shortly after in March – just nine months after the release of its predecessor.

In news that’s unlikely to surprise anyone on nodding terms with prevailing trends in smartphone upgrades, Samsung’s new kit will purportedly pack a larger five-inch OLED screen – up from the S3’s 4.8-inches - and international 4G LTE support.

An unnamed deepthroat said: “Samsung wants to keep its one-year product schedule and the Galaxy S4 will be the first to match that strategy.

“The S4 will see some external changes but retain its popular rectangular shape with rounded corner concept.”

News of Samsung’s plans comes as it recently announced that the S3 has now sold some 20 million units, making it the company’s fastest-selling phone ever.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera can be said to be a smartphone sans the “phone” bit. After all, it will come with the most recent Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, not to mention carry a slew of connectivity options that would even turn some smartphones green with envy – such as 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi support. I am not quite sure whether mobile carriers will soon put the Samsung Galaxy Camera up for sale on a 2-year contract with a data plan thrown in for good, but time will tell.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera can be said to be the best Android-powered dedicated camera at this point in time, as its only competitor would be the Nikon Coolpix S800c, but that certainly loses out to the Samsung Galaxy Camera in many aspects. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy Camera has the latest Android operating system version as opposed to Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the S800c, while it has a 21x optical touch zoom lens (vs 10x optical zoom on the Nikon) and a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor.

You can choose from three options – a 3G and Wi-Fi version, a 4G LTE and Wi-Fi version or a Wi-Fi-only model. What is your flavor of the day? I suppose that budget also has plenty of say in the final purchase decision.

New HTC Unveils the Affordable Desire X

Today HTC announced the Desire X, an affordable take on their One series. Just like the One X and One S, the Desire X features HTC’s proprietary ImageChip, Beats audio, and Snapdragon S4 processor. “HTC Desire X is an extension of your social life,” said Jason Mackenzie, President, Global Sales and Marketing for HTC Corporation. “If you’re looking to enjoy and share high quality multimedia, wherever you are, this is the phone for you. It not only looks and sounds great, but also provides a super-fast, highly personal mobile experience at a great price.”

Highlights of the Desire X include:
  • Android 4.0 with HTC Sense
  • 4-inch super LCD WVGA screen
  • Dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play
  • 5 megapixel camera with HTC’s proprietary ImageChip, a f/2.0, 28mm wide-angle lens, BSI sensor, HDR mode and automatic adjustable flash
  • 768 MB RAM, 4 GB internal storage
  • User replaceable 1650 mAh battery
  • microSD expansion slot
  • Beats Audio
The overall specs of the Desire X are on the level of the HTC One V, which currently sells for around $299, so we would expect it to be sold for $299 or less. This device probably won’t make it to the US, but it gives us an idea of where HTC’s affordable phones are headed.

Samsung Galaxy Note II Unveiled: 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED Display, Android

Well, hopefully, you aren’t tired of hearing about the Galaxy Note II yet; Samsung has finally made their announcement and released the official details. The leak earlier this morning pretty much had it nailed, but let’s go through the list now that it’s official.
Samsung Galaxy Note II White
Naturally, the screen is the highlight here. It’s an enormous 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display at 1280×720. Early hands-on are showing that, while it is perhaps not quite up to the caliber of the HTC One X screen, it is a vast improvement over the Pentile displays we were seeing previously.

The other signature feature is the S pen. The handwriting experience in general and that has been upgraded, as well. The pen itself is a bit larger, making it easier to handle, and the digitizer in the Note II supports 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity–4x that of the original.

Powering the Note II is a 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos processor with 2 GB of RAM. I can’t imagine that won’t be sufficient to keep things humming along.

The battery is 3100 mAh (just shy of what Motorola crammed into the RAZR MAXX), but of course, with this kind of screen real estate, you’re going to need every bit of that battery.

As for the cameras: it’s a backside illuminated 8MP on the rear and a backside illuminated 1.9MP on the front. For the camera software there are some functions already familiar to us from the Galaxy S III including Buddy Photo Share, Burst Shot and Best Photo. But the Note II is also getting a feature called Best Faces, which will let you “choose the most preferred face or pose of each person from group portrait photos.”

As far as storage goes, we’re looking at the same options as the Galaxy S III: 16, 32 and 64GB models and a microSD slot to boost that even further if you wish.

The Note II will launch with Jelly Bean (as you would hope by now) and, of course, will have the TouchWiz overlay.

The two pieces that had been missing this morning were pricing and availability. We’ve now got half of that covered. The Galaxy Note II will go on sale in European, Asian and Middle Eastern markets in October with US availability coming “later in 2012.” Obviously, that doesn’t leave them with a huge window, so those of us in the US shouldn’t have to worry about waiting months before seeing the Note this time around.

Any original Note fans salivating over this update? Or, if you weren’t convinced by the original, are you finding yourself tempted this time around?
